FIRST FRIDAY HATBORO CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE DAY!

First Friday Hatboro offering old-fashioned 'Sidewalk Parade'
for kids & pets, Independence Day trivia and live music July 4

Area residents looking for something to do between Fourth of July picnics and fireworks can bring the family to downtown Hatboro for a special celebration of "First Friday" on Independence Day.

The Kidz Klub, A Dog's Life (and a Cat's too!) pet boutique and Hatboro Baptist Church are partnering with the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce's First Friday Hatboro Committee to offer an old-fashioned "sidewalk parade," Independence Day trivia contest, prizes and give-aways, live music and a chance to climb aboard a fire truck.

First Friday Hatboro, a "celebration of the arts" held the first Friday of every month from 6 to 9 p.m. in the borough's business district, will be modified due to the number of participating businesses that will be closed for the holiday.

Instead, family activities will be concentrated in the north end of the business district:

  • 5:30 p.m. - "Know Your Kountry Kidz Trivia Game" at The Kidz Klub, an interactive toy and video game store at 201 N. York Road (corner of N. York and W. Monument Ave.) Youngsters can test their knowledge of the United States and its founding fathers for a chance to win prizes and treats.
  • 6 p.m. - Old-fashioned "Sidewalk Parade" will kick off at The Kidz Klub.
Pet owners are invited to dress animal companions in their patriotic best for a stroll to the center of town, joining kids on bikes, in wagons and strollers. All are invited to don or decorate in red, white and blue. Flutes, horns or "anything that can make a tune," are welcome. For planning purposes, anyone interested in participating is asked to call the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce, 215-956-9540.

The parade will head south to Moreland Avenue, cross York Road and proceed north to the grounds of the Hatboro Baptist Church, 32 N. York Road where participants will be treated to refreshments and more trivia, prizes and give-aways.

Pet Contests at A Dog's Life (and a Cat's too!)
Wet Nose Rescue, a non-breed-specific dog rescue based in Feasterville, will team up with A Dog's Life (and a Cat's too!) to offer some contests for the pets, complete with prizes. The store will give a red, white and blue pet bandanna to any one donating a dollar or more to the Wet Nose Rescue.

  • 7 to 9 p.m. - Live Music at family-friendly "Heavenly Brew Café."
Hatboro Baptist Church's "Heavenly Brew Café," which will be set up outdoors - weather permitting - will present live music by the alternative rock group, "Checkgauge," as well as fair trade coffee, tea and sodas.

Inside the church, on the second floor, The Amy B. Yerkes Museum, a small historic museum staffed by members of the Millbrook Society, will offer a look at Hatboro's history.

Hatboro Enterprise Fire Company at Hatboro Baptist Annex
Next door, in the parking lot of the Hatboro Baptist Annex, 50 N. York Road, kids can climb into the cab of a Hatboro Enterprise Fire Company truck, try on some fire gear, or practice working the fire hose. Parents are welcome to take photos.

  • 6 to 9 p.m. - Classical Guitar at Le Coffee Salon.
Le Coffee Salon, 50 S. York Road, will feature Jesse Cohan performing classical guitar music.
Elsewhere in downtown Hatboro, a number of taverns and eateries will be open.

THE 16th ANNUAL 'MOONLIGHT MEMORIES' CAR SHOW

Downtown Hatboro will be the center of attention July 26 when more than 500 specialty cars and trucks roll into town for the 16th annual Moonlight Memories Car Show presented by the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce.

The free event, which historically draws between 500 and 600 show-quality cars - and 75,000 to 100,000 visitors - will be held from 5 to 10 p.m., with cars lining both sides of York Road, from Fulmor Avenue at the south end of the borough to Summit Avenue at the north.

The top 50 cars in "Moonlight Memories XVI" will receive special awards, as will those tapped for honors in specialty categories such as: Best of Show, Chairman's Choice, Ladies' Choice, Most Potential, Best Truck and Longest Distance Traveled.

Last year's winners were from throughout the Pennsylvania and neighboring states, with the furthest travelling from Brecksville, Ohio. Awards will be presented at 9 p.m. in front of Miller & Cornell Insurance, 112 S. York Road. Interspersed between the vehicles on display will be vendors offering auto-related products and services. Car show visitors who work up a thirst or an appetite can drop into one of Hatboro's more than 20 restaurants, eateries, convenience stores and taverns.

As an added attraction, Bingo will be offered from 5 to 9 p.m. at the headquarters of the Second Alarmers Association & Rescue Squad of Montgomery County, 118 S. York Road.

Throughout the show, radio station WRDV-FM will broadcast live from the platform outside Miller & Cornell Insurance.
